Take advantage of opportunities to export tuna to the world market

Tuna export to the world market always brings good export turnover for Vietnam, so Vietnamese tuna processing and exporting enterprises are especially interested.

In the face of strong global fluctuations over the past year, tuna exports have always strived to bring good export turnover to Vietnam.

Therefore, solutions for Vietnamese tuna to be better consumed in the world market are always interested by Vietnamese tuna processing and exporting enterprises.

Take advantage of opportunities from free trade agreements

The effective free trade agreements are also the driving force for Vietnam's tuna exports to gain more advantages. That is a competitive advantage in tax when accessing European markets and the Asia-Pacific bloc, through the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreements (EVFTA), Comprehensive and Progressive Partnership Agreements. Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, after skyrocketing 108% to $88 million in the first month of the year, tuna exports to February continued to grow at a high rate of 57%, reaching $67 million. . This number is nearly double that of February 2019, the time before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Entering March of this year, tuna exports continued the stability of the first two months of the year, helping Vietnam's tuna exports in the first quarter of 2022 reach more than 230 million USD, up more than 53% over the same period last year. 2021.

Explaining this growth, a representative of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers said that tuna is one of the products that have made good use of free trade agreements such as EVFTA and CPTPP to increase exports. exports in the first months of 2022.

In the first quarter of 2022, in addition to the US market, which increased sharply by 99% with a turnover of 80 million USD, markets with new-generation free trade agreements with Vietnam increased sharply. In which, the CPTPP block market including Canada increased by 52%, Chile increased by 99%..., EVFTA bloc such as the Netherlands increased sharply by 114%, Belgium increased by 163%.

Notably, exports to most markets in the EU increased sharply. The Netherlands, Germany and Belgium are currently the three largest importers of Vietnamese tuna in the first three months of this year. In which, the Netherlands has risen from the 4th position to be the largest tuna import market of Vietnam in the EU, accounting for 3% of total tuna export value.

Notably, exports to most markets in the EU increased sharply. By the end of February, Vietnam's tuna export value to the EU reached nearly 24 million USD, up 52% over the same period. The Netherlands, Germany and Belgium are currently the three largest importers of Vietnamese tuna in the first two months of this year. In which, the Netherlands has risen from 4th position to be the largest tuna import market of Vietnam in the EU, accounting for 3% of total tuna export value.

As for the CPTPP market, tuna exports to many markets such as Canada, Peru, and Chile all increased over the same period.

It is expected that the growth trend of tuna exports to Europe will continue this year. Because the economies of the euro area countries are growing strongly again and reaching the same size as the end of 2019, the time before the COVID-19 pandemic. This has boosted the demand for tuna in European countries to recover.

In addition, the tariff preferences as agreed in the EVFTA Agreement, which are restarted in the first months of 2022, are creating a driving force to promote Vietnam's tuna exports to this market block, the Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers said. seafood exports added.

Take advantage of the domestic market

Consumption of tuna is not only through export, businesses also diversify consumption methods with a variety of products and customers. This means that quality products will be provided to all consumers who want to choose and enjoy.

Currently, with just over 70,000 VND, many domestic consumers can enjoy ocean tuna eyes as desired, or with only 160,000 VND, many consumers can buy 1kg of tuna fillet, medium price pocket money for middle-income people in the country.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, in the past, it was not easy for people to enjoy tuna eyes, or tuna fillet products. Because, the volume of tuna caught is not enough to meet the import orders of the European and Japanese markets. Not only that, enterprises processing and exporting tuna products must import raw tuna from other countries to supply enough for the import market.

With the trend of integration and increasing culinary demand, domestic consumption has become an important segment for the tuna fishing, processing and export industry to have more development motivation. With the diversified development of many communication channels through social networks, domestic consumption is a more favorable way to promote tuna exports.

According to Mr. Tran Van Tan, Director of Phu Yen Department of Industry and Trade, tuna fishing is strongly developed in 3 provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa. If in the past, ocean tuna weighed tens of kilograms only for export, now domestic consumers can easily enjoy it.

Many tuna product suppliers have also changed their marketing methods to promote on social networking sites, in order to attract more consumers' attention. At the same time, strengthening the domestic consumption channel not only creates a chain effect in promoting the image of Vietnamese tuna, but also helps to increase the consumption channel so that Vietnam's ocean tuna is more flexible than consuming only in one country. market as before, can best cope with economic and social fluctuations.

In addition, tuna is one of the key seafood export products of Vietnam, bringing in a turnover of about 700 million USD per year. Increasing export turnover for tuna is still the first goal. To stimulate domestic demand for aquatic products; including tuna, a series of problems need to be solved such as the product range must be diversified, the quality must be guaranteed, and the price must be reasonable.

With tuna processing technology of enterprises across the country today, Vietnamese tuna products are still appreciated by consumers as superior to many other countries. Therefore, satisfying domestic customers is also a solution to attract international customers to increase their choice of Vietnamese tuna./.
