According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in the first half of this year, pangasius exports to the EU market have prospered again after more than three dismal years.

Specifically, by the first half of May 2022, the total export value of frozen pangasius to this market reached 76.8 million USD, up 95% compared to the same period last year. In which, the Netherlands is the most attractive market, accounting for 31.7% of the total value of Vietnam's pangasius exports to the EU.

VASEP's pangasius market expert, Ms. Ta Ha, analyzed: The contagion effect of the Ukraine war has been clearly felt around the world. From rocking energy markets to fueling Europe's growing refugee crisis. Experts warn that the conflict could have even bigger impacts, including triggering an impending food crisis. Meanwhile, the EU is the main trading partner of agricultural products, food and seafood with Russia and Ukraine. So now the European Union is facing the threat of food security. Food prices in Europe are forecast to rise to unprecedented levels. Moreover, the fact that many EU countries and the US are "punishing" Russian pollock - which is a strong competitor to pangasius also makes the supply of white fish in this region significantly reduced.

According to Ms. Ta Ha, so far, the Netherlands is still the largest pangasius import market of Vietnamese enterprises. In the first 4 months of this year, Vietnam exported a variety of pangasius products to this market, including value-added products such as: Frozen breaded pangasius, frozen sliced pangasius; frozen pangasius fillets (Cubes), frozen pangasius fillets; Frozen nugget cut pangasius fillet, frozen rose roll pangasius fillet, frozen fried beer flavored breaded pangasius, frozen organic pangasius fillet.

Currently, besides the Netherlands, pangasius enterprises are exporting frozen pangasius to Germany, Spain, Belgium... with a positive and positive trend.
