Generally in the first two months of 2023, Vietnam's pepper exports reached 41 thousand tons, worth US$129 million, up 35% in volume, but down 7.4% in value over the same period in 2022.

In February 2023, the average export price of Vietnam's pepper was estimated at 3,059 USD/ton, down 11.1% compared to January 2023 and down 32.8% compared to February 2022. Generally, in the first two months of 2023, the average export price of Vietnam's pepper is estimated at 3,177 USD/ton, down 31.4% over the same period in 2022.

In the domestic market, in February 2023, prices of black and white pepper increased sharply due to increased import demand from the Chinese market. On February 28, 2023, the price of black pepper increased from 8,000 - 8,500 VND/kg (equivalent to an increase of 13.9 - 15.3%) compared to January 30, 2023, to 64,000 - 65,500 VND/kg . The price of white pepper was at 98,000 VND/kg, an increase of 6,000 VND/kg compared to the end of January 2023, but still lower than 121,000 VND/kg in the same period in 2022.

Global pepper market is forecasted to recover due to increased demand from importers. Although Vietnam is at the time of the main harvest season, the output of the new pepper crop is showing a significant decrease. This is due to a decrease in area and low productivity in some areas due to unfavorable weather.
