According to the Vietnam Food Association, in the first months of the year, rice exports are thriving in all three criteria: volume, turnover and average value.
The major export markets of Vietnam are the Philippines, China, Indonesia... in which, the Philippines has held the position of the largest market for many years, in the first 7 months of this year, exports to this Southeast Asian country reached nearly 1.94 million tons, with a turnover of nearly 985 million USD.
Notably, the rice structure continued to be shifted to high-quality and high-value rice. In the past 7 months, ordinary white rice continued to account for the largest proportion, reaching 55.5% of the total export volume (equivalent to about 2.35 million tons); followed by fragrant rice of all kinds, accounting for 24.2% of the total export volume (about 1 million tons); sticky rice ranks third, accounting for about 8.5% of the total export volume (about 358.5 thousand tons); broken rice accounted for 7.6% of total export volume (about 324,000 tons); The rest are other types of rice.
According to the Vietnam Food Association, over the past time, Vietnam's rice exports have grown strongly and rice exporters have achieved their goals when consuming rice for people at good and stable prices. domestic market, contributing to ensuring national food security. Currently, the quality of Vietnam's rice meets all world markets, which is a good sign.
At this time, Vietnamese rice has an export advantage to increase both output and export price because the supply effect from major exporting countries is limited, but this advantage will not last. While many people think that India - a country that exports about 22 million tons/year may withdraw the export ban, rice prices will certainly not be able to maintain the high threshold.
Therefore, experts say that businesses need to take advantage of short-term opportunities to increase exports and lock in high selling prices. In addition, it is necessary to continue to consistently implement in the direction of improving quality, increasing aromatic rice, specialty rice, increasing the application of science and technology in production to increase output, reduce consumption of investment materials. in, reducing emissions to achieve net zero in agriculture.
It is forecasted that in 2023, Vietnam's rice exports can reach 8 million tons, which is a record number ever.
